About the word "Elegant"

while reading the insightful book of D. H. Meadows, Thinking in Systems, again I encountered an unfamiliar word and referred to dictionary. the paragraph was illustrating the definition of a System through distilling out the digestive system:
For example, the elements of your digestive system include teeth, enzymes, stomach, and intestines. They are interrelated through the physical flow of food, and through an elegant set of regulating chemical signals. The function of this system is to break down food into its basic nutrients and to transfer those nutrients into the bloodstream (another system), while discarding unusable wastes.
Elegant has the same root as the word "elect" which means "to choose". also It is related to the verb "eligere", meaning "to select or choose carefully". Over time, the meaning shifted from being careful in choosing to having the quality that comes from good choice. Something elegant, then, is the result of making excellent selections—rejecting the ugly and the excessive in favor of what is truly refined and beautiful. for example:
- His writing is elegant without a single unnecessary word.
Elegant is the best adjective to describe Digestive System, when I looked backward again, I realized that every organ (member of system) and every phase of this process (Interconnections) has been choose carefully, and it must be, in order to achieve such a goal: to transfer nutrients into the bloodstream while discarding unusable wastes.
to recognize the fascinating flow of facts embedded here I mention another paragraph of book, about a non-system:
Is there anything that is not a system? Yes. Sand scattered on a road by happenstance is not, itself, a system. You can add sand or take away sand and you still have just sand on the road. Arbitrarily add or take away pieces of your digestive system, and you quickly no longer have the same system.
we can't add or take away pieces of our digestive system without losing the purpose. The same applies to a football game. imagine we cancel the role of NO-touching the ball by hand, what would happen? it's done before! (with more changes and regulations). it is Handball :) entirely another game at all, another system absolutely.
I think, probably it can be true for us, for a person. each of us is a system, including ideas, behaviors, knowledges etc...
if we seeking a goal, like our digestive system, wanting to be a purposeful system, we should act and play and do elegantly. our behaviors, habits, changes and actions should come from choices. because adding or taking away every thing from this system, entirely kills previous system and so another system arises. we become another system, going to another destination and we will arrive to a destination after a period of time, if our destinations during the travel remain in the same direction! otherwise we will reach nowhere.
perhaps if our decisions are being made by happenstance, our goal is shifting continuously, at leas from a systemic view.
and this is the coexistence of "goal-setting" and "deliberation". if you want to reach a goal, you should design the path elegantly!
